Sometimes I hate this generation of avocado toast-eaters and instagram baddies. There are such unrealistic expectations that are implied by every snapchat story and instagram post. Until I remember that they’re just like me: human!
We all try to be the girl that goes to the gym everyday, wakes up with perfect natural hair, and eats quinoa the way I eat mac and cheese, but dang, it is so exhausting! In college particularly, I see beautiful girls everyday with their sorority shirts and perfectly curled hair and I’m easily so discouraged. But what I often forget is that the same beautiful people I admire today, might not be recognizable in their hoodie tomorrow…and that is okay!
Last night I cried myself asleep while wearing the same t-shirt to bed that I’ve sported the past three nights. Today I woke up with bad breath and I hung out in bed until noon. As much as I try to hit the gym and cut back on the mac and cheese, some days are better than others. Some days we are tired, some days we are awesome, some days we have tragedies, some days we eat quinoa, some days we skip brushing our teeth, somedays we sleep till noon, but everyday we still show up. No matter how overwhelmed we might be, life does not pause so that we might have a break. No matter if we wallow or run wild, the world will still turn. So if quinoa is what makes you feel better, then indulge, or if you love your sleeping shirt more than life, take it to bed! Do what feels good for you, not what looks good to everyone else.
Do not feel like you are any less of a bad ass because your hair is in a messy bun, instead wear your hard work on your sleeve and do not try to conceal it with an aesthetic instagram or a fake smile. Do what makes you feel like you deserve a pat on the back. Work hard, get dressed up, or stay home on a Saturday night, it is your life and it does not have to look the same as Kylie Jenner’s. Whether you’re in a mini skirt or sweatpants, a girl boss is still a girl boss.

love this, ev.
